马大姐不日之内将满45岁，老伴打算给她好好过个生日，广请亲友，热闹一番。不料女儿提出要给马大姐一个什么“意外惊喜”，也就是通知街坊邻居、丈人丈母，每人携带一份礼物于生日当晚来马大姐家赴宴，但这一行动不可让马大姐本人提前知晓，大家必须一改装成不知此事的样子。孰不知马大姐与当年同学聊起许多往事，得知自己初恋男友同学新鳏，更不免感慨万千。岂料无论她如何循循善诱，老伴竟一点也不记得这是她生日，甚至女儿、父母也将此事忘得干干净净，在她的旁敲侧击下显得特别无情。 失望已极的马大姐在生日这天，竟鬼使神差地去了那位初恋男同学家，想不到昔日高大英俊的他如今已是一个平庸俗气的秃顶，当然更不记得什么马大姐的生日了。 当晚，当马大姐拈一枝给自己买的玫瑰心情疲惫地推开家门时，万没想到一桌丰盛的晚宴和亲朋好友的笑脸、礼物已经等了她那么久。马大姐在惊喜万分的同时，也把一丝内疚悄悄藏入心底。
