张婕妤来见世民，想为她的从兄弟在世民处谋得一职，结果被世民正色拒绝。张婕妤对世民怀恨在心。河北，窦建德的旧部刘黑闼等人以给窦报仇为名，举兵起|义。李渊世民负责剿灭刘黑闼，世民又一次拿到统兵权让建成和元吉十分眼红。他们意识到，如果自己的手中没有兵权，是不可能胜过世民的。世民很快就平定了河北的叛|乱。死里逃生的刘黑闼又聚集了一些乌合之众，继续造|反。建成在张婕妤的帮助下，主动请战，终于争取到了统兵权，前去剿灭刘黑闼。刘黑闼被建成擒获。建成回到长安却不愿立即交回兵权。东宫谋士献计，将此次战斗中兵器铠甲扣下一部分留作己用，其余交还兵部。李渊要去仁智宫避暑，留太子镇守长安。临行之前，建成与元吉密谋增兵事宜。
