有朋一直以来处事谨慎，即使教授他最拿手的厨艺，也会花很长的时间备课。但当有朋在备课时，突然发现自己的刀法突然退步，大惊下自觉身体出现退化。刚巧，有朋上司却要求他参加厨艺比赛，更令他备受压力。 有朋满腹怨气回家，女儿却提出要参加一个名为「九死一生」的比赛活动，有朋听后忽一反常态怒责蕙婷，令蕙婷一怒而去。高庆立即出手安慰蕙婷，但当高庆看到比赛表格内附的地址后，内心却另有打算…… 有朋大发脾气后，在厨所内练习刀法泄愤，有义及溢满见状连忙安慰他。有朋道出担心自己退化影响家人，更将所有希望放在女儿身上，才作出如此异常反应。 原来众人在旁听到一切，妙喜更提议有朋与蕙婷参加那个「九死一生」的比赛活动，藉此重建信心。有朋本着「必死」的信心参加比赛，却发现只不过是一个为老人家所设的活动。高庆亦发现，原来有朋的所谓「退化」却是另有原因……
