田源高考的作文对文革和党做得不对的地方提出了批评，老师在判卷的时候有了争议，有的老师觉得应该直接给零分，有的却觉得可以酌情给分，一时间商定不了。有的老师便提出先判定零分，等商议完了再最后定夺。邓小平同志听了有关高考的消息，提出因为这次匆忙，下一次一定要全国统一考试，统一出卷。田源一查自己是高分但是政审却没有过，他曾经被拘留过，所以他的情况已经被报上去了。邓小平同志看了几个老干部给他递上来的信，信大多与高考中很多学生因为政治审查问题而没有被录取。邓小平便召开了小会，邓小平听了大家的反应决定要解决这些问题。邓小平听了田源的案例觉得很气愤，他认为我们要对考生的前程负责，便要教育部的人复议这些录取有问题的学生。
