Bröderna Karl och Jonatan Lejon återförenas efter sina korta liv på jorden i landet Nangijala, där sagornas och lägereldarnas tid råder. Men det idylliska livet i Körsbärsdalen hotas av den grymme riddaren Tengil som med hjälp av sin eldsprutande drake Katla tagit makten i Törnrosdalen och sprider skräck och fasa omkring sig. Karl och Jonatan som genom sitt mod kallas bröderna Lejonhjärta tar upp striden mot Tengil och hans svartklädda soldater.
