Luís Madureira
Luís Madureira was born in Tomar in 1955. Graduated with the Superior Course of Voice by the National Conservatory of Lisbon, in the class of Professor Joana Silva, he continued his studies in London with Professor Peter Harrison, as a scholarship holder of the Secretary of State for Culture. He holds a degree in Music / Variant Canto, from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML). Luis Madureira divides his activity between teaching, singing, theater and cinema. He is often invited to collaborate as a teacher of vocal technique and elocution by several institutions. His repertoire covers ancient music, baroque, lied and melodie, as well as a large number of composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. After being member of the Gulbenkian Choir, where he was directed by Jorge Matta, Fernando Eldoro, Michel Corboz, Michel Tabachnik and Claudio Scimone, Luís Madureira performed regularly in concert accompanied by some of the best known Portuguese pianists including Olga Prats, Jorge Moyano, João Paulo Santos and Nuno Vieira de Almeida, in Portugal, France, Germany, Switzerland, England, USA, Brazil and Mozambique. He was a founding member of the ColecViva musical theater group, directed by the composer Constança Capdeville, performing several times at the Encontros de Música Contemporânea of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, at Encontros Acarte, at the Auditorium of the Center for Modern Art of the Gulbenkian Foundation, at the Teatro São Carlos, and in many other concert halls. His sporadic participation as a singer in the productions of the National Theater of São Carlos in Lisbon has always been favorably emphasized by specialized critics. His interest in the theater led him to participate in performances staged by Nuno Carinhas, Carlos Quevedo, Ana Támen, Filipe La Féria, Luis Miguel Cintra, Giorgio Barberio Corsetti, Ricardo Pais and Cornelia Geiser and under the direction of Bento Pinto da França, in productions for television. In the cinema, he was directed by Monique Rutler, Joel Farga, Manoel de Oliveira and Ruy Guerra. He performed as a soloist for the Remix Ensemble and Remix Orchestra under the direction of Stefan Asbury and Peter Bergamin. Conceived and participated in the show Duplo, a production of the D. Maria II National Theater in collaboration with the Festival "Temps d 'Images", presented in 2004/2005 at TNDMII, Rivoli / Municipal Theater, Mafra International Music Festival, at the Viriato Theater and at the Cultural Center of Cascais. He was artistic director of the Porto Opera Studio of Casa da Música (2001). He was the music programmer for FARO, National Capital of Culture 2005. He develops an ongoing work with pianist Jeff Cohen.
