A drámasorozat a közeli jövőbe, a technológiai és a tudományos fejlődés elgondolkodtató világába nyújt betekintést. A tehetséges neuropszichológus, Eadie Boulay (Joanne Froggatt) minden vágya, hogy gyermeke születhessen, de az emberi gondatlanság és az éghajlatváltozás miatt kialakult természeti csapások bonyolulttá teszik a döntését, és morális kérdéseket vetnek fel benne. Az anyaságra vágyó tudós kétségbeesése veszélyes alkuhoz vezet, a meghozott kompromisszum azonban csekély árnak tűnik a várandósságért cserébe. Mindeközben pedig az emberiség legfőbb célja saját fajának és bolygójának megmentése.
