It was rumored that he sought not only the Ark of the Covenant, but the Holy Grail, the omphalos from the Oracle of Delphi, the entrance to the mythical land of Shambhala, and an object known as “The Spear of Destiny”–the spear that was supposedly used by a Roman soldier to pierce Christ’s side during the crucifixion.
