Στην περιοχή της Ντακότα, το 1879, μια οικογένεια αποίκων σκοτώνεται με απάνθρωπο τρόπο. Τα πτώματα φέρουν περίεργα τραύματα, από άγνωστο όπλο. Κι ενώ οι άποικοι προσπαθούν να καταλάβουν τι έχει συμβεί, μια δεύτερη οικογένεια εξαφανίζεται μυστηριωδώς. Έτσι συγκροτείται μια ομάδα από θαρραλέους ντόπιους για να βρουν τους εξαφανισμένους και να ανακαλύψουν τι έχει συμβεί. Αναμένοντας πως θα έχουν εύκολο έργο εναντίων των ντόπιων ινδιάνων, η ομάδα προετοιμάζεται για μια εύκολη μάχη. Αλλά σύντομα ανακαλύπτουν ότι οι πραγματικοί εχθροί βρίσκονται από κάτω τους και είναι πολύ διαφορετικοί απ'ότι είχαν φανταστεί...
