Havent finalitzat la seva col·laboració a l'Estàtua de la Llibertat, el cèlebre enginyer Gustave Eiffel (Romain Duris) és al cim del món. Ara, el govern francès l'està pressionant per dissenyar una cosa espectacular per a l'Exposició Universal de París del 1889, però Eiffel no hi està interessat. De cop, tot canvia quan en el seu camí es creua una misteriosa dona del seu passat (Emma Mackey) i el foc de la seva passió prohibida es revifa, inspirant-lo a canviar la imatge de París per sempre.
