Mini serija u dva dijela čija se radnja događa u Americi početkom 1840-ih. Inače priča je ekranizirana prema istoimenom romanu Larrya McMurtya, koji predstavlja "prequel" iliti radnju prije događaja u popularnoj mini seriji Lonesome Dove i njenog nastavka Return to Lonesome Dove, također McMurtyevi romani. U ovoj seriji pratimo dogodovštine dvojice mladih teksaških rendžera Augustusa McCraea, još zvanog Gus i Woodrowa Calla, njihovo pridruživanje Teksas Santa-Fe ekspediciji i put u Novi Meksiko.
